The Gibson Library Society

Visit to David Parr House, Cambridge, Wednesday 5 July 2023

For the first time since the COVID lockdowns we have arranged a summer trip for our members.

This will be to David Parr House, 184/6 Gwydir Street, Cambridge CB1 2LW. davidparrhouse.org/

Some of you will remember the talk on the house given to the Society by Tamsin Wimhurst a few years ago. The house is an ordinary Victorian terrace but contains extraordinary decoration by master Arts & Crafts decorator David Parr, an employee of the local Leach firm. David lived there from 1886 until his death in 1927. It remained relatively untouched in family hands for a further 85 years.

As the house is a small venue it can only accommodate 6 visitors at a time. We have therefore booked two guided tours each for 6 society members, making 12 places in total. The first tour will start at 11.30am and the second at 1.30pm. They last about 90 minutes. There are many cafes nearby and we can gather there between the tours.

To book a place please complete the form below and return it by 30th May 2023. The visit costs £14.50 per person and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Members will be required to make their own way there and back. The house is about 10 minutes' walk from Cambridge railway station, and as on previous occasions, we will organise car shares (full details of this and the trip nearer the time). Please tick the appropriate box on the form.

The visit is now fully booked, and no more places can be reserved.
